Tuesday, February 25, 2014

On Tuesday February 25th the Laurel, Delmar, and Sharptown Fire Departments were alerted for a garage fire on sharptown road, just west of town limits. Asst. Chief Steve Brittingham was in the area and advised Sussex dispatch of a working alarm. Engine 81-4 arrived first on scene and the crew pulled 2 hose lines and started their attack. E/T 1402 arrived next and pulled into the adjacent driveway and pulled an additional hose line. E/T 74-2 arrives and provides manpower and water supply. Additional units would arrive and provide manpower and water. Quick work from firefighters saved the house from becoming involved from fire extension. Heavy fire from the garage upon arrival of firefighters consumed it, along with a shed. Minor exterior damage was done to the house. Fire Crews were on scene for approx. 2 hours before all units were placed into service. The fire is under investigation by Fire Marshall's office, and at this time believed to be started by a heat lamp.
